The Gunners raced into a two-goal lead with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus but Mohamed Salah reduced the deficit before half-time.
The second half belonged to Liverpool but they had to wait until the 88th minute to find the equaliser when Roberto Firmino headed home Trent Alexander Arnold’s cross.
That came after Salah missed from the penalty spot, while Darwin Nunez also failed to convert a one-on-one.
But it was in added time that Liverpool will feel they should have won the game, with Salah and Ibrahima Konate being denied by Aaron Ramsdale.
While the draw means the title race is now in City’s hands given they have a game advantage and Arsenal to come at home, Keane says Arsenal should see it as a point gained.
‘Arsenal should be delighted with the point,’ said Keane.
‘I really do. I know people will say look at the picture and that City are back in control of it but I think it was a great point for Arsenal.
‘I know they were two-nil up and you could say they were v v comfortable but in the last 15 minutes when you’re hanging in there, against Liverpool, in front of the Kop you’ve got to be grateful for what you get out of the place and that’s a point. Be thankful for it.’
With Arsenal’s gap down to six points, the Gunners will look to get back to winning ways against West Ham next weekend.
Arteta’s side travel to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon as the Hammers look to relieve their relegation fears.
