Roy Keane says the bookies are ‘playing silly games with people’ as he dismissed talk of him being linked with the West Brom job.
The Baggies are looking for a new manager having sacked Steve Bruce following a poor run of results.
It was reported that the bookies had Keane down as an early favourite for the job, something he’s since poured cold water on.
“It’s bizarre… the bookmakers are playing silly games with people,” Keane told Sky Sports.
“I think I was favourite for a few jobs over the last year or two and it was all nonsense. Same with the speculation over the last 24-48 hours.”
The Manchester United legend has managed Sunderland and Ipswich and has also held assistant manager roles with Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and the Republic of Ireland national team.
He’s not held a manager’s post since leaving Ipswich in January 2011 having built up his name in punditry in recent years.
However, Keane still believes he’s got something to give as a manager.
“I think sometimes when I do a lot of the media stuff it can leave me unfulfilled,” Keane added.
“I still think I have something to offer as a manager, that’s the bottom line. I still think I could do something at a club.
“You also have to be careful what you wish for. I’m not going to be a critic of what I’m doing now, I have a good life and I enjoy what I’m doing but sometimes I feel there’s something in the pit of my stomach that feels I should have another go at it.
“That won’t go away. Still at weekends on a Saturday if I’m going to matches I still have that urge to go back into it. It’s as simple as that and it’s hard to shake it off.
“I know I might not get that opportunity, I’ve had some opportunities and I count my blessings.
“If something happens, great. If not, obviously life goes on.”
