Roy Keane has expressed his sympathy for Antonio Conte and believes the new Spurs boss faces an unenviable task in his attempt to instill a winning mentality at the north London club.

The former Chelsea and Inter manager joined Tottenham at the start of November and has made a positive early impression, with Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool further evidence of the impact he has made in a short period of time.

Conte inherited a squad that has been assembled by his three most recent predecessors, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, none of whom were able to fully change the culture within a club which hasn’t won a a major trophy since 2008.

Keane is a huge admirer of the Italian but believes, on the evidence of last year’s All or Nothing Amazon documentary, he will struggle to repeat the successes he has enjoyed elsewhere.

He told SkyBet: ‘Everyone likes Conte. Obviously, his CV is brilliant. Again the timing he’s gone in there, Spurs must be a hard job.

‘I hate using the word but imagine the culture at Spurs. Have you seen that documentary? When I watched that ,and I know it can get edited, but I was shocked in terms of what was going on at the club.

‘The medical room, everybody on their phones. They showed a couple of players falling out it might have been Allie and Dier but they were arguing like children.

‘There was no aggression. It wasn’t real. They were like actors there was no emotion behind it.

‘Harry Kane was doing a talk before the game and I was like ‘Harry you need to liven up man’. First of all if you have a speech before every game players are going to get bored of it. Why do you think you need speeches before matches?

‘When you have a huddle before a match and there’s 600 staff in there as well you lose what it’s about.’
