Rubbing salt into a gaping wound, an axed Disney series was due to expand its reach on streaming this month

Anyone who was hoping for a second season of mystery thriller series The Watchful Eye was dealt a hammer blow when it was axed after a solitary season, but that was only the beginning of the misery to come.

Not only was the show tossed onto the scrapheap, but it was immediately removed from not just its home platform of Freeform, but every Disney-owned affiliate including Disney Plus, Star Plus, and Hulu. As if that somehow wasn’t bad enough, The Watchful Eye was due to expand its international reach – and potentially find an even bigger audience – this month.

Unfortunately, the Mouse House has moved incredibly fast to make you forget it even existed in the first place, with What’s on Disney Plus reaching out to the company for comment, only to be told that the plans for The Watchful Eye to be added to the library in additional overseas markets has indeed been abandoned, much like the project itself.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not going to be an earth-shattering miss given that it wasn’t quite a critical darling or an overwhelmingly buzzy episodic exclusive, but it’s a slap in the face nonetheless. TV shows get canceled all the time, and there’s nothing anybody can do about it, but burning them at the stake and erasing them from existence only hours after the news has been official is nothing short of cruel.

Goodbye, The Watchful Eye, we hardly knew ye, and you may never be seen again on any Disney-branded outfit.
