Honor the Gift is celebrating the grand opening of its Los Angeles flagship store this week, as the September month stirs up the streets of the four major cities of Fashion Week; New York, Milan, London, and Paris. Hosted by Russell Westbrook on September 24th, 2022, his first brick-and-mortar for Honor the Gift is a dream realized by Westbrook, who grew up in the heart of Los Angeles.

In his hometown of Los Angeles, Westbrook relishes the aura of his hometown. In a previous interview reflecting on the city streets, he states, “to be able to create a brand structured around the inner city and underserved communities.” He continued, “because that’s where I grew up – where I’m from – [and] that’s what I relate to.”

The grand opening celebrated guests of Westbrook during the day and included many other attendees of all ages. Guests could enjoy food from Hart House, a quick bites restaurant from comedian Kevin Hart, face painting for kids, and music by DJ Nitrane to keep the vibe going.

The Los Angeles-based and inspired label recently debuted its Fall ’22 collection titled “District,” which is directly inspired by the Unified School District of Los Angeles. The new HTG retail space is located at 130 N La Brea Ave, open Monday through Sunday and offering apparel and accessories for men, women, and kids.

That evening, Westbrook hosted an intimate cocktail party for friends and family. The party was organized by Mindy Weiss and included an open bar, appetizers, and sounds. A homage to Honor The Gift’s first two collections, Private & Public, “District” revisits Westbrook’s perspective of the Inner City Student. “District” boasts a new aesthetic that reflects conscious production by Honor The Gift, creating items from vegan leathers, varsity jackets, and heavy-weight cable knits for Men, Women, and Kids.

Russell Westbrook was born and raised in Los Angeles and now makes his living in the NBA with the Lakers, a full circle moment for a South Central kid. Besides a love for basketball, Westbrook has shown a passion for fashion. As seen in his tunnel fits over the years, Westbrook can create on and off the court. No stranger to the month of Fashion Week either, Russell Westbrook has experienced fashion in elevated space, and with the opening of the HTG store, he hopes to uplift his community of Los Angeles.

Regarding our previous conversation, Westbrook reminisced on his youth, foreshadowing this moment for him in opening a fashion retail space. He stated, “I can go to a shop [in Downtown Los Angeles] and learn, going with my mom and looking at fabrics. Seeing these allowed me to [figure out that] this is what I really want to do [in fashion]. To be able to find a love for it and figure out what I wanted to do with it – I didn’t know then, but I have a better idea now.”
