Russell Westbrook is technically a member of the Utah Jazz following a trade made near the deadline, but the point guard reportedly already has his eyes on his next destination.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Westbrook has been in contact with the Bulls, Clippers, Wizards and Heat regarding a potential buyout.
Three of the destinations would be new teams and new experiences for Westbrook, but a reunion with the Wizards is interesting. Westbrook spent one season in Washington, leading the team on a charge to the playoffs in the second half of the year.
The Wizards traded Westbrook on draft night in 2021 for several players including Kyle Kuzma, who is one of the stars on the Wizards today.
Joining any of the other three teams would present Westbrook with a similar situation to what he had with the Lakers. The Bulls, Clippers and Heat each have All-Star duos that would welcome a playmaker like Westbrook into their roster.
Both the Clippers and Heat would give Westbrook the opportunity to compete for a title, something that many believe his Hall of Fame career is missing.
Wherever Westbrook ends up, he will carry his ability to set up teammates and drive to the basket.
