Huntresses and Huntsmen have been in charge of the fight against the monstrous and horrid Grimm for decades. To protect the innocent inhabitants of the world of Remnant, these fierce warriors train daily to become stronger and more efficient during a fight.
Throughout the nine different volumes of this intriguing and captivating show, we have met some of the powerful and imposing beings that inhabit its universe. Below, we will talk about the ten warriors in Remnant that could defeat almost anyone on their way.
Spoiler Warning: beware of major plot spoilers for RWBY!
10 Hazel Rainart
When Hazel was young, he had a twin sister named Gretchen who wished to become a huntress. She enrolled in Beacon Academy, learning from Professor Ozpin how to fight against the forces of Grimm. Sadly, she passed away during a mission, leaving her brother alone.
Hazel used the anger and hate he felt towards Ozpin to join Salem and become one of her best warriors.
Armed with his semblance of Numbing Agent, which made his body insensitive to pain, Hazel began working against Ozpin, killing many of the headmaster’s most trusted warriors. Despite his extremely versatile semblance and vast physical strength, Hazel was defeated by Salem and her Monstra in a matter of minutes.
9 Glynda Goodwitch
Being a Hunter is a dangerous job in which you risk your life every day by fighting Grimm. That is why Glynda, the Combat Class teacher at Beacon Academy, always makes sure to prepare her students for every situation they could find themselves in. She is a proficient and brilliant fighter who always finds the most efficient way to finish a confrontation.
Her Semblance, Telekinesis, allows her to control objects with her whip to a degree in which she can control entire rooms with a single movement. Sadly, she has not been seen in combat often, and she has clearly stated that she is weaker than Ozpin, whom she looks up to and respects.
8 Penny Polendina
In the world of RWBY, where you come from does not matter as long as you have a strong conviction and friends to aid you. Penny is an android created by the brilliant doctor Pietro in the kingdom of Atlas. Penny was a true huntress despite her artificial origins, always looking out for those in need.
She even got to inherit the powers of the Winter Maiden, an ancient magic that gives its user ice-based power and increased strength and aura. With the help of her swords, which she controlled from afar with a set of wires, Penny could defeat many enemies in a couple of seconds. Sadly, her power could not compare to that of Cinder, who fatally injured her during their fight in Atlas.
7 Raven Branwen
Besides Ozpin and Salem’s armies, there is a third prominent group of warriors that controls a portion of Remnant, the Bandit Tribe. Their leader, Raven, is not only one of the most fearless fighters in the show, but she is also an unstoppable force on the battlefield.
Proficient in both sword fighting and hand-to-hand combat, Raven has proven that underestimating her is a mistake that her enemies will not live to make twice. To top it all off, Raven is also the current Spring Maiden, giving her power over plant life. Still, she has been shown many times as being afraid of Salem, proving that she knows she is nowhere near as strong as the porcelain-skinned woman.
6 Neopolitan
When Neo was first introduced to the fans, she was a high-profile criminal and sidekick to the infamous Roman Torchwick. Her semblance, Overactive Imagination, allowed her to project her thoughts in the form of illusions that everyone around her could see. This already made her a terrifying enemy, as she could easily use her power to trick her opponents.
After Roman died, Neo swore vengeance upon Ruby Rose, the leader of Team RWBY. This anger caused her semblance to evolve, allowing her to create physical manifestations of her thoughts. She could create swarms of monsters, clones of deceased people, and even weapons. However, her hate and overconfidence often blinded her, causing her to let her guard down and be defeated.
5 Winter Schnee
The Atlesian military is one of Remnant’s most dedicated and diligent forces. As a member of the Atlesian Ace-Operatives, it makes sense for Winter, Weiss’ older sister, to be one of the best soldiers in this strict military force. Not only is Winter a disciplined and powerful warrior, but also a masterful tactician.
Her ability with a sword and with dust has no equal in all the Kingdoms. After Penny died, Winter became the new user of the Winter Maiden powers, giving her the ability to control ice in all of its forms. Nonetheless, even though Winter has years of experience and the power of a Maiden, she is still light-years away from the power shown by the powerhouses of the show.
4 Ozma
Legends speak of an ancient and powerful warrior that married a beautiful girl trapped in a tower. This warrior died in battle, leaving his wife heartbroken. This mysterious and brave fighter was the mighty wizard Ozma, otherwise known as Becon Academy’s headmaster Ozpin.
Ozma’s mission is to prevent the world from falling into the clutches of his ex-wife, Salem. To accomplish this, Ozma has been reincarnated every time he dies, inhabiting a new body with each generation. Sadly, while his experience and wisdom follow him from body to body, his strength and muscle memory do not, forcing him to begin his training again and again.
3 Cinder Fall
Not everyone on Remnant is fortunate enough to have a loving family and attend a Hunting Academy. Cinder Fall, Salem’s trump card, is sorely aware of this fact, as she had to grow up as a servant. At some point in her life, Cinder escaped her master, joining Salem in hopes of obtaining the respect and luxuries that she had wanted her whole life.
Early in the show, Cinder acquired the Summer Maiden powers after killing the previous Maiden. With this power, she was capable of defeating Pyrrha, who was known at the time as the Invincible Girl. She also has a Grimm arm, capable of absorbing the aura or the power from however it holds. Nevertheless, Cinder still fears Salem greatly, as she knows she is incapable of beating such a powerful being.
2 Salem
When her husband Ozma died, Salem began searching Remnant for a way to bring her lover back to life. When this failed, she challenged the Gods of the land, The Two Brothers. These deities took offense to being questioned by a mere mortal, cursing her with immortality, and preventing her from ever reuniting with her husband. Despite this, she managed to find her husband once more, only to be betrayed by him when she revealed the cruel person she could be. This was the last drop, causing Salem’s mind to snap.
She became obsessed with the idea of killing the Two Brothers, whom she blames for the tragedies that occurred in her life. Besides immortality, Salem is also the leader of the Grimm, having complete control over these terrifying beasts. Tragically for her, the fact that she wants to create an army to destroy the Two Brothers is an indication that she is not strong enough to defeat them.
1 The Two Brothers
Creation and Destruction are arguably the most important concepts behind the creation of any universe. In RWBY, these primordial forces are represented via the two most powerful deities, the Two Brothers. These two siblings each control one of the aforementioned natural forces, capable of doing feats beyond human imagination with them.
Like most siblings, they tend to get on each other’s nerves, which has caused many tragedies in the world of Remnant. However, on the few occasion in which they have decided to work together, there is no known force that can stop them. Proof of their nigh-infinite power is the four Relics, ancient artifacts that can grant the person who collects them all power over all creation. There is no being in Remnant who does not shiver before these two imposing Gods.
