If someone from the future told me that Ryan Gosling’s most iconic role would be as Ken the Barbie doll in the summer of 2023, I would have told them that time machines are not real and that The Notebook is the most iconic film ever made.
We are just about a year away from the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the film that has taken over the internet and our brains. Directed by Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) and cowritten by Gerwig and her partner, Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story).
It stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Unfortunately, the film, which does not come out until July 21, 2023, is once again back in the news because people clearly can’t stop asking Gosling about it.
Here’s an official photo of RyGos as Ken, in case you’ve somehow forgotten or if it’s been a while:
Live from the London premiere of his Netflix movie The Gray Man (which comes out Friday), BBC’s The One Show asked Gosling about how his long-time partner, actor Eva Mendes, feels about his role as Ken, per PopSugar UK. “She’s been very supportive. She’s supporting my Kenergy,” he said. “She started a hashtag, #ThatsMyKen, which meant a lot to me.”
It is not shocking that Mendes is supportive of her hot husband in this hot role. In June, Mendes appeared on US talk show The Talk and said that she got to keep the pair of underwear Gosling wore as Ken in the above press photo that took over the internet. “I saw the photo and the 14-year-old in me was like, ‘Ahhhhh,’” Mendes said in an interview with The Talk on Monday 27 June.
In addition to Gosling and Robbie, Barbie boasts a stacked supporting cast, with America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, and more.
