Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney to give Wrexham stars huge holiday reward

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are discussing the prospect of taking their Wrexham heroes to Las Vegas to celebrate their National League title success. The Red Dragons roared last weekend when they finally clinched the National League title to earn promotion back to the English Football League, 15 years after they were relegated from League Two.

There can be no doubt that Wrexham’s achievements would not have been possible without the financial backing of Hollywood owners Reynolds and McElhenney, who have bankrolled their remarkable season.

The pair have already promised £250,000 bonuses for each player for catapulting the club back into the EFL but it seems they could also be set for another welcome reward.

Wrexham board advisor Shaun Harvey told The Athletic: “There is a trip to Las Vegas being mooted.”

Trips to Sin City at the end of a long hard season are not a rarity in footballing circles.

Last summer Wigan Athletic jetted to Las Vegas to celebrate their League One title triumph as they took the chance to unwind and enjoy the moment before their underwhelming return to the Championship.

Declan Rice and Jack Grealish also headed to Las Vegas last summer where they partied behind the decks with Australian DJ Fisher.

If Wrexham’s promotion heroes are to head stateside, it won’t be their only trip to the United States this summer.

The Red Dragons will get a taste of the big time when they face Chelsea in South Carolina on July 19 in a pre-season friendly.

Then they head to San Diego to test themselves against Manchester United, who will mainly be fielding youngsters, one week later.

Wrexham are already planning their next blockbuster signing with McElhenney attempting to lure Gareth Bale out of retirement to join the club’s exciting revolution.

Bale sent his well-wishes to Wrexham in a video message, saying: “Hi Rob, just want to congratulate you on your promotion and everything you’re doing at Wrexham.”

McElhenney then replied with: “Hey [Gareth Bale] let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season”.

The National League champions finally bring the curtain down on their historic season on Saturday when they travel to Torquay United.

Wrexham have accumulated a whopping 110 points, shattering the National League points record of 105.

They have already broken the record for most goals scored in a single campaign too having struck 115 times, although second-place Notts County have scored one more with 116.

Both clubs have also beaten the record for most wins in a National League season (31) with Wrexham currently on 34 and Notts County on 32.
