Notts County have been promoted to the National League alongside Wrexham AFC to the delight of the latters Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham earned automatic promotion and the National League title ahead of County after the two sides battled all season – with County having to go through the play-offs.
After beating Boreham Wood in the semi-final, they faced Chesterfield at Wembley and twice had to come from behind – including in extra time – to force a penalty shootout that decided their fate.
And after controversially taking off their first-choice goalkeeper for loanee Archie Mair from Norwich City, the youngster made two saves to guide the team to a shoot-out victory to join Wrexham in the Football League.
It’s tough to argue that County deserve to be promoted after their incredible season – finishing 33 points ahead of Chesterfield in third place and both Reynolds and McElhenney have championed the Magpies cause after their epic title battle.
