Ryan Reynolds left speechless as Rob McElhenney tears into Barnet star

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds was left speechless by Rob McElhenney after he tore into Barnet player Laurie Walker for one of his post-match tweets. The goalkeeper had been involved in an incident that had seen Wrexham defender Callum McFadzean receive a red card, going on to ask the club’s Hollywood owners about his acting.

Wrexham currently sit top of the National League as they close in on promotion to League Two. However, the club’s title charge suffered a minor setback as they fell to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Barnet allowing chasers Notts County to close the gap at the top to two points.

The game was not without controversy after Wrexham defender McFadzean was sent off towards the start of the second half after appearing to leave a foot on the head of Barnet keeper Walker. The 33-year-old arguably made the most of the contact and alluded to this in a now-deleted tweet after the match.

Tagging Wrexham owner Reynolds, he wrote: “How’s my acting skills mate? Think I could play a part in your next film. I think your gaffer thinks I could.”

It was initially ignored by the Deadpool star but McElhenney bit after seeing a separate tweet suggesting that it could be used in an appeal.

“I thought ‘own goals’ could only happen during the actual game,” he wrote in response. Leaving Reynolds speechless as he replied with a gif of McElhenney saying ‘Wow’.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson was raging at Walker for his actions, receiving a red card following the full-time whistle after confronting the Barnet stopper for his actions accusing him of cheating.

He was still annoyed when he spoke to BT Sport in his post-match interview, this time directing his ire at the referee.

“I’m not happy with the role the referee played in the sending off first of all,” he explained. “That’s a soft red card, it’s his trailing leg. There’s no real intent there.

“For me he’s got it wrong. The keeper made a meal of it in all honesty and that influences the referee’s decision.”

Wrexham need two wins from their final three games to lift the title with Yeovil the first team in their way on Tuesday night at the Racecourse Ground.
