Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project Gets March Release Date on Netflix

The Adam Project has been in the works for a long time, and now the Ryan Reynolds time travel movie has landed a March release on Netflix.

Ryan Reynolds may be on a break from acting, but he has enough in the pipeline to keep his many fans happy in the meantime. The Adam Project will be his next movie released and we don’t have too long to wait with USA Today’s list of most anticipated movies revealing the film’s premiere date of March 11th, with a limited theatrical run expected in the week prior to that. Teaming up once more with Free Guy director Shawn Levy, Reynolds will hope for the same kind of reaction that the video game-based action comedy received when it arrived last summer to $331 million worldwide box office and a place among the top-grossing movies of the year.

The Adam Project is a sci-fi adventure that sees Reynolds playing Adam, a man who time-travels to the past in order to confront his father with the help of his 12-year-old self. The younger version of Reynolds’ titular character will be played by Walker Schobell making his movie debut, with the rest of the impressive cast includes Jenifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo as Adam’s parents, with Guardians of the Galaxy’s Zoe Saldana and Get Out’s Catherine Keener paying undisclosed roles in what looks certain to be another streaming hit for both Netflix and Reynolds. This comes hot on the heels of the crime thriller Red Notice, which saw Reynolds playing alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot in one of Netflix’s biggest hits of the year.

The Adam Project Has Been in Development for Over a Decade

The original idea for The Adam Project came over a decade ago, with Tom Cruise originally signed up for the project, which at the time was called Our Name Is Adam. Following years in development hell with Paramount Pictures, the project was finally taken over by Netflix in 2020 and moved forward with Reynolds producing and starring and Levy joining as director.

There is currently not a great deal more known about the film’s plot and the fact we still don’t know who all the stars linked to the movie are playing suggests that there is a lot that is being held back for audiences to experience themselves when The Adam Project arrives in two months. At the moment simply having Reynolds’ name attached is enough for many to give the film a shot and it should prove another win for the pair.

Ryan Reynolds announced that he was taking a break from action for a while after he completed filming on his Christmas movie Spirited with Will Ferrell for Apple TV+. Despite that, with a number of recent releases and The Adam Project incoming, it is likely that fans will not have a chance to notice the actor’s absence before he is back to work on more future blockbusters. Marvel fans will be hoping that one project getting his full attention on his return is the highly anticipated Deadpool 3, which will bring the Merc with the Mouth into the MCU for the first time and is currently in the early stages of development.

The Adam Project can be streamed on Netflix from March 11th, 2022.
