Ryanair issues holiday warning as it’s ‘forced to cancel’ flights

Ryanair has issued a holiday warning after it was “forced to cancel” flights due to strikes in Italy.

The budget airline said that it had had to cancel some flights travelling to and from Italy due to the industrial action.

On its website, it said: “Due to the Italian handling strike on June 20, 2023, Ryanair regrets to inform customers it has been forced to cancel a small number of flights to and from Italy on Tuesday, June 20.”

It said that all the affected customers would be notified by text or email. The airline said all customers should check the status of their flight on its website or app.

Ryanair added: “We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused due to this Italian handling strike, which is beyond our control.”

Workers are striking in Italy over pay and working conditions in 24 hours of action which is expected to affect several airlines.

Air traffic control staff and baggage handlers are taking part in the action at several Italian airports.

Air traffic control staff are planning to strike nationwide while ground staff at Genoa Airport and security staff at Milan Malpensa Airport are also joining action.

‌Ground services staff at several Italian airports are taking part in action for four hour periods of the day.

  • Alghero
  • Florence
  • Milan Malpensa
  • Naples
  • Pisa
  • Rome

Other airlines travelling to and from Italy could also be affected by the action so passengers should check before heading to the airport.

British tourists could be affected by strike action in several destinations this summer. There are ongoing strikes in France over the country’s pension reform.

Spain is also facing strikes with British tourists likely to face disruption if action continues into the summer.
