Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori Join Scream 6

The cast of Scream 6 continues to expand, with Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori becoming the latest stars to join the sixth installment of the iconic slasher franchise, as reported by Bloody Disgusting. Their roles are being kept under wraps, keeping with the franchise tradition, but judging by Weaving’s past work, she could definitely be the contender for the next Ghostface.

Samara Weaving is best known for her manic performances in films like Mayhem, The Babysitter, and Ready or Not. She also starred in Ash vs. Evil Dead. Interestingly, Weaving was also approached for a role in Scream 5, having worked with the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on Ready or Not, but had to pass on due to scheduling conflicts.

As for Tony Revolori, he rose to prominence with the 2014 Wes Anderson comedy, The Grand Budapest Hotel. But fans may perhaps best remember him as the bully, Flash Thompson, in the MCU Spider-Man movies. Revolori is no stranger to the horror genre either, having starred in Apple’s critically acclaimed Servant.

Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori join fellow franchise newcomers Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible), Josh Segarra (Arrow), Liana Liberato (The Beach House), Devyn Nekoda (Ghostwriter), and Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water) in Scream 6.

Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) will reprise their roles as the survivors of Ghostface’s last murder spree in Scream 6. Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere also return as legacy characters, Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed, respectively.

Scream 6 “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” The film is reportedly set in New York City, a first for the series, and is currently filming in Montreal, Canada. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct Scream 6, alongside writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Scream 6 will be released in theaters on March 31, 2023.

Scream 6 Boasts a Stacked Cast, But Franchise Lead Neve Campbell Will Be Missing

Paramount Pictures was quick to greenlight Scream 6 after the box office success of Scream, and things were looking hopeful for the franchise. Many fans had their doubts about a Scream movie without Wes Craven at the helm, but Scream (2022) not only proved the naysayers wrong but also successfully relaunched the franchise.

However, Scream 6 hit a major roadblock last month when Neve Campbell, the original final girl of the series, chose not to return over a pay dispute.

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

While we still have Courteney Cox in Scream 6, Neve Campbell is the face of the franchise, and it will be challenging to make a Scream movie without her. Hopefully, the filmmakers will find a plausible way to explain her absence from Scream 6.
