After clinching a spot in the Final Four and cutting down the nets, San Diego State Aztecs head coach Brian Dutcher did a trust fall off of a ladder.

The 2023 men’s NCAA Tournament has been nothing short of noteworthy. The amount of upsets in the tourney has busted up brackets across the world, but it has not lessened the entertainment value. After 68 teams entered the tournament, only four remain. One of those teams is the No. 5 San Diego State Aztecs.

On Sunday, San Diego State defeated the No. 6 Creighton Bluejays, 57-56, to clinch a spot in the Final Four for the first time in program history. The Aztecs broke a tie with just over one second remaining in regulation, thanks to a clutch free throw by Darrion Trammell. Creighton’s crosscourt inbound pass fell just short, clinching the victory for San Diego State.

As is tradition in college basketball, the teams who make the Final Four get to cut down the nets. San Diego State head coach Brian Dutcher got to officially bring down the net, and he decided to do a trust fall off the ladder and into the arms of his players.

That’s trust, right there.

San Diego State had quite the run in this year’s tournament. They defeated the No. 12 Charleston Cougars in the opening round and the No. 13 Furman Paladins in the second round to clinch just their third ever spot in the Sweet 16. They had to face off against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide, whom many deemed the favorites to win the entire tournament. Yet, the Aztecs handled the Crimson Tide by the score of 71-64 to secure their first ever trip to the Elite Eight. Not to mention that they were the first Mountain West team to make it to the Elite Eight.

On Sunday, San Diego State junior guard Lamont Butler led the way for the team by scoring 18 points while. making 8-of-11 shots from the field and both of his three-point attempts.

The Aztecs are looking to win their first national championship in men’s college basketball. But first, they will have to get past the No. 9 Florida Atlantic Owls in Houston on Saturday, Apr. 1.
