Los Tigres del Norte will donate a portion of the proceeds from its April 1 hometown concert at SAP Center in San Jose to Bay Area nonprofits that work with local farmworkers.
The San Jose band — which has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and ranks among the most popular Latin music acts — made the announcement during a press conference held at SAP Center on March 21.
Los Tigres del Norte made the decision to direct funds from ticket sales to the two agencies — Ayudando Latinos a Soñar and Hijas del Campo — after hearing the news of the tragic shootings that happened in Half Moon Bay earlier this year, according to the band.
Each of the nonprofits will receive 300 tickets to the April 1 show, which they can sell and keep the money to further their efforts to assist Latino farmworkers and their families. The venue and the promoter will also be donating a portion of the regular ticket sales as well.
Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets start at $60, ticketmaster.com.
Los Tigres del Norte — often referenced as “The Voice of the Immigrant Community” or “The Voice of the People” — has a long history of supporting community assistance programs.
There were also representatives at the press conference from both Ayudando Latinos a Soñar and Hijas del Campo.
Ayudando Latinos a Soñar is a Half Moon Bay-based agency that “offers free programs of cultural arts, mental health, education, basic needs and social justice for Latino families and farmworkers of the Coastside” while Hijas del Campo is a Contra Costa County-based group “that assists immigrant/migrant farmworkers and their families in accessing healthcare, food and educational resources,” according to a news release.

The Los Tigres del Norte announcement follows last week’s news that Mexican pop music megastars Mana and Alejandro Fernandez — two acts whose combined worldwide album sales clock in at well over 50 million — would be donating money from Bay Area shows to aid Pajaro Valley flood victims.
The Mana gigs happened over the weekend — on March 17 at SAP Center and May 18 at Oakland Arena — while the Fernandez show takes place Sept. 9 at SAP Center.
A portion of the proceeds from those shows are going to Community Bridges, a Santa Cruz County nonprofit established in 1977 that works to provide food, healthcare and other areas of support to local families. Visit communitybridges.org for more information.
