A 13-year-old student was taken into custody after bringing a loaded handgun to a San Jose middle school on Friday, authorities say.
The incident took place at Herbert Hoover Middle School on 1635 Park Avenue, between the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Municipal Rose Garden. The San Jose Police Department received word of a minor in possession of a firearm on school grounds at 10:21 a.m. after another student saw the firearm and reported it to school staff.
According to SJPD, there were no threats made, shots fired or injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
It’s currently unknown if the student’s parents could face criminal charges as a result of the incident, but a SJPD spokesperson told Bay Area News Group on Monday that it was not likely.
