Santa Clara: Mastro’s Steakhouse, a Beverly Hills favorite, opening at Valley Fair

It’s been called a “bougie institution,” “a cut above the rest” and “everything you want in a steakhouse.”

For more than 20 years, Mastro’s Steakhouse has been hosting see-and-be-seen crowds, first in Scottsdale and then Beverly Hills, Malibu, Palm Desert, Vegas and points east before making its way back west to San Francisco in late 2019.

And on Wednesday, the highly anticipated restaurant is finally opening at Westfield Valley Fair. The upscale Santa Clara mall location had been in the works for two years.

Expect classic upscale steakhouse: prime and pricey.

Wagyu tomahawk chops, massive Porterhouse cuts and bone-in ribeyes mingle on the menu with chilled-seafood towers, lobster mashed potatoes and crab gnocchi sprinkled with shaved black truffles.

And at Mastro’s, there’s a tradition: You’re also supposed to leave room for the signature dessert, the warm, rich Butter Cake.

The two-story property, located across from iChina, features 17-foot-ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, a white marble staircase going up to the second floor, artisan-created chandeliers and screened, heated patio seating. Two private dining rooms accommodate up to 70 diners each. The glass-enclosed wine cellar showcases more than 8,000 bottles.

The restaurant will launch with dinner nightly, then add lunch service starting at noon Dec. 14. The dinner hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
