This article contains ‘And Just Like That’ spoilers.
It’s a classic case of not knowing what we had until it’s gone – and Sarah Jessica Parker’s latest comments about former co-star Kim Cattrall have smashed any and all hopes that we had of the OG Sex And The City cast ever reuniting. Granted, those hopes were hanging by a tiny thread anyway, but still, it’s not the news we hoped for.
The revelation comes following last night’s And Just Like That finale (also, side note: how have we reached the end already? Where have the last ten weeks gone?) with SJP being asked by US magazine Variety if she would be alright with having Kim Cattrall AKA Samantha return to the spin-off series.
Her reply? Well, let’s just say there was absolutely no beating around the bush: “I don’t think I would, because I think that’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared.” She went on to say that she hasn’t actually read or been involved in any of those articles though. “People are just inclined to let me know,” she added.
Of course, it’s no secret that that would probably be the case. Cattrall has always been quite vocal about the fact she would never be part of SATC again, saying it’s because of ongoing tension between the cast. And despite Cattrall liking a series of tweets that shaded the SATC reboot before it’d even started, SJP has always denied rumours of any issues between her and Cattrall.
Although Cattrall’s physical absence from And Just Like That was felt by the show’s fans, her character, Samantha, wasn’t written out of the script completely.
In the very first episode, we were told that she’d moved to London following a massive falling out because the book publishing world isn’t what it was. But, despite a hint of Samantha’s possible return in a yet-to-be-confirmed second season, let’s not get too excited because it turns out And Just Like That’s showrunner, Michael Patrick King, has also had his say on the subject.
In the same interview with Variety he was asked whether the door was open for Samantha to return. Answering the question he said: “No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That, because she’s said what she has said.”
And so, just like that, it was the confirmed end of a Carrie and Samantha reunion. Heartbreaking to say the least.
