Sarah Jessica Parker Was ‘Really Tickled’ Over John Corbett Joining And Just Like That…

There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding Kim Cattrall’s unexpected cameo in And Just Like That… but she’s not the only Sex and the City appearing in the upcoming second season of the series. John Corbett, who portrayed Carrie’s boyfriend-turned-fiance-turned-ex Aidan Shaw in the original series, will reprise his role for And Just Like That... In 2021, Corbett played a joke on the media when he teased that he may appear in the series’ first season. As we know, that never happened, but Sarah Jessica Parker came to the actor’s defense, calling the joke “kind of delightful and kind of fun.”

In a recent interview with EW, Parker, who leads the series as Carrie Bradshaw, referenced the incident:

“I was really tickled when I think he’d said before we started shooting the first season that he was going to make an appearance. I think he was doing a press junket and he created all sorts of [buzz] and he was then texting me. He was apologetic. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? It was fantastic. Carry on. Say whatever you wanna say, I don’t mind.’ I was thrilled,” she said.

Parker, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, also shared her excitement about the actor’s return to the Sex and the City universe:

“I love him and he is so special and he has made Aidan ever more special than he was on paper, which was pretty wonderful. He was meant to be there, I think, for three episodes [of Sex and the City] or something and ended up staying, how many years? He’s just a really lovely presence. He’s easy and he listens, and it’s not that the work is easy, it’s just that he has this really easy quality on set and a wonderful kind of nature in front of a camera. It’s wonderful to be in his company again.”

What’s Next for Aidan and Carrie?

Corbett was a staple in Sex and the City during the third and fourth seasons when Aidan and Carrie’s romantic relationship led to an engagement. Carrie is unable to fully commit to a marriage with Aidan, and the two eventually break up for good. Aidan reappeared in season six of Sex and the City as a married man and a young son. In 2010, Corbett was back as Aidan for the second Sex and the City film, where his character shares a kiss with Carrie after a run-in in Abu Dhabi.

When Just Like That… premiered in late 2021, Carrie was married to John “Mr. Big” Preston (Chris Noth), but his sudden death left Carrie a widow. During the first season’s final episode, Carrie kisses another man, leaving audiences hopeful that she is ready to move forward and date.

So what does that mean for Carrie and Aidan? While a recently released trailer shows the two meeting at a restaurant following an email, whether they will revisit their romantic relationship or develop a friendship is unknown. Season 2 debuts on June 22 on Max with two episodes, with subsequent episodes dropping every Thursday. The season consists of 11 episodes. And Just Like That… stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Mario Cantone, Evan Handler, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Sara Ramirez, and Karen Pittman.
