Filmgoers are loving Sasha Calle as Supergirl in The Flash. Now playing in theaters, The Flash brings back the SnyderVerse’s Ezra Miller to reprise their role as Barry Allen, playing multiple versions of the character in the film. Michael Keaton’s Batman is also among several big returns featured in the movie, and that alone helped generate tons of pre-release excitement. After going out and watching the film on the big screen, many filmgoers are finding themselves leaving the theater thinking mostly about Calle’s potential future as Supergirl, with some even saying that the character steals the show.
“While her role in The Flash isn’t anywhere near as big as I would’ve liked it to be, Sasha Calle steals every scene she’s in and embodies the role of Supergirl perfectly. I genuinely hope Sasha is given the chance to reprise her role as Supergirl in the DCU in the future,” one tweet reads.
“BTW, Sasha Calle was PERFECT in The Flash,” says someone else. “The emotion and feeling she brought into every scene as Supergirl was amazing and definitely imitated that of Tom’s Kings comic run I’ll always root for her and I hope she returns to the DCU She’s our Woman of [Tomorrow].”
The only real gripe the fans seem to have with the performance is that there wasn’t enough of it, as noted by one person tweeting, “My only nitpick about Sasha Calle’s Supergirl is I wish we got more of her in The Flash. I loved the way she encapsulated Kara’s anger and also serenity. Calm voice + badass appeal. If you put a strong cast around her for Woman of Tomorrow, I think she’s even better.”
And pointing out how even many who are otherwise critical of the film are still loving Calle’s Supergirl, another Twitter user wrote, “The Flash is dividing comic book twitter although the one thing we can all agree on is Sasha Calle stole the show as Supergirl despite her lack of screentime.”
Will Sasha Calle Return as Supergirl?
The fans have spoken, and people want more of Sasha Calle as Supergirl. With that said, it remains to be seen if that will ever happen. As of now, there are no set plans for Calle to reprise the role, and given how DC Studios is wiping the slate clean with the formation of the new DCU, there’s been speculation that this incarnation of the character will be scrapped after The Flash. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing a DCU-set film called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but the project is still in its very early stages, and the two have not yet decided if that movie will utilize Calle’s Supergirl or if it will introduce a new incarnation of the flying crime-fighter.
