Gilas Pilipinas tries to regain its place as the best in the region in men’s basketball while the women’s team looks to extend its dominance in the Southeast Asian Games with a third straight medal in Cambodia.
The Philippine men’s basketball team, which yielded the gold medal in the 2022 SEA Games that ended a 33-year rule, begins its campaign on May 9 in a revised competition format where the top two teams in the group stages advance to the semifinal round.
In the previous edition of the basketball competition, teams played in a single-round robin and the team with the best record got the gold.
Gilas Pilipinas Women, meanwhile, start its arduous trek for the “three-peat” on May 10, playing six games in six straight days with the old single-round format still in place.
