School’s back! Filming has officially begun on the second season of Netflix’s breakout hit, Heartbreak High.
The streamer made the announcement recently, releasing a sweet video with the show’s key cast, including Ayesha Madon, who plays Amerie, Chloe Hayden (Quinni) and James Majoos (Darren), expressing their excitement that the show is returning.
Perth actress Asher Yasbincek, who plays Harper is back, as well as other key cast, including Thomas Weatherall (Malakai), Gemma Chua-Tran (Sasha), Josh Heuston (Dusty), Will McDonald (Ca$h), Rachel House (Woodsy), Chika Ikogwe (Jojo), Sherry-Lee Watson (Missy), Bryn Chapman Parish (Spider) and Brodie Townsend (Ant).
The Netflix series is a modern take on the iconic 90s show, which screened here on ABC and was sold internationally, gaining a legion of devoted fans.
The new series appealed to a whole new generation when it launched internationally last year, racking up huge streaming numbers for the service and scoring a place in the top 10 most-watched shows in countries including Australia, USA, and across Africa, Asia and Europe.
It amassed more than 42.6 million hours viewed globally in its three weeks in the top 10, also scoring a huge social media following, with the hashtag #HeartbreakHigh notching up 680 million views on TikTok alone.
The streamer is remaining tight-lipped about what’s in store for the students at Hartley High in season two, but the stars have all expressed excitement to be back inhabiting their old characters.
“I am so excited to be back reading the scripts,” Madon says in the promo video, “I’m hoping Amerie finds a little bit of peace.”
Hayden admits fans can get ready to see, “a lot of change”.
