Scot Eilish McColgan has broken the European and British 10km road race records in the Great Manchester Run.
The two-time European medallist took down Paula Radcliffe’s European 10km record with a time of 30.19 on Sunday.
In February, the Dundonian set the British record in the 5km road race, with 14.48 in Dubai to break mark of 14.51 set by Paula Radcliffe in 2003.
She bettered her mother Liz McColgan’s unofficial 14.57 from 1991, and was four seconds short of a European record. But later that month, she beat Radcliffe’s 21-year-old British half marathon record by 21 seconds, in a time of one hour six minutes 26 seconds.
More than 20,000 racers in Sunday’s Great Manchester Run applauded the 22 victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack on the five-year anniversary ahead of the starting pistol.
The city is marking the anniversary free of coronavirus restrictions for the first time in three years.
The commemorations on Sunday include church bells tolling at 10.31pm – the time a bomb was detonated at the Ariana Grande concert on May 22 2017.
Remembrance services will also take place at the Glade of Light Memorial by the cathedral in the city centre.
