Scotland defender to miss rest of season with fractured collarbone

Scotland defender Scott McKenna has suffered a broken collarbone and will be out for the rest of the season.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper confirmed the 26-year-old suffered the injury during the English Premier League clash with Liverpool at the weekend.

The former Aberdeen star has been a mainstay of Steve Clarke’s side but missed out on the recent wins over Cyprus and Spain with a hamstring injury.

Despite being out for eight weeks he returned to the Forest team in recent weeks but has now suffered another setback that makes him a major doubt for the European Championship qualifiers in June.

Scotland travel to Oslo to play Norway on June 17 before hosting Georgia in Glasgow three days later.

He will be out for the rest of the league season, which finishes in the last weekend of May, and will be missing for Forest in their attempts to survive a relegation fight.

Speaking to the media this afternoon ahead of Wednesday night’s fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion, Cooper said: “He’s fractured his collarbone, so that’s him done for the season unfortunately.

“It’s a real blow for him having just returned from a hamstring injury and having worked so hard to get back fit.

“He’s a great professional who always gives his best in everything he does, so for him to suffer the bad luck that he has with this injury is really unfortunate.

“He’s naturally feeling down, he’s a positive guy anyway who is pretty lowkey and gets on with his work. He’s a really good professional and a really good teammate.

“He would have loved to continue committing everything for the rest of the season, but unfortunately that’s not the case.”
