Bournemouth manager Scott Parker admits there could be more dark days to come after watching his side lose 9-0 to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

It was a devastating afternoon at Anfield for the Cherries, as they suffered a record-equalling heavy defeat in Premier League history.

After a win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend, Bournemouth have now lost three games on the spin and conceded six more goals than any other side in the division.

In a remarkably honest comment, Parker was asked if the 9-0 loss would be the lowest moment of the season and he told the BBC: ‘At this moment in time, where we currently are, I can see some more to be honest with you.’

The Cherries have made some signings since promotion from the Championship last season, bringing in the likes of Marcos Senesi, Neto, Marcus Tavernier and Ryan Fredericks, but Parker has always insisted they need more and admits that an afternoon like Saturday’s does not surprise him.

‘It doesn’t surprise me,’ he said. ‘This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big.

‘At times we couldn’t bear it, the intensity. We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It’s a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.

‘I’m gutted for the players. It’s my job and it will the defining of us as a group how we bounce back from this.

‘We have some days where hopefully we can get some help in and support and help the current team who came up from the Championship.

‘There’s loads of work to be done. The experience today, you never want to be on the end of this. This is currently where are are. If this is the group we’re going with we’ll react and see where are.’

He added: ‘We need to make a decision as a football club what we want to do this year – do we want to be competitive? We’re not competitive right now.

‘It’s very difficult. The touchline is a lonely place. I felt for every single one of the players.’
