It’s been over two decades since Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley were teammates on the Houston Rockets. And it sounds like Chuck is going to have to wait another 20 years-plus before he receives an apology from the longtime Chicago Bull.
When Houston acquired Pippen in a sign-and-trade following the breakup of the “Last Dance” Bulls, Barkley took a paycut to ensure that the Rockets could lock up the six-time NBA champion to a five-year $67.2 million contract.
However, Pippen would go on to demand a trade the following season, blasting Sir Charles publicly after the Rockets star expressed his disappointment.
“I wouldn’t give Charles Barkley an apology at gunpoint,” Pippen said. “So, he can never expect an apology from me. If anything, he owes me an apology for coming to play with his sorry fat butt.”
As always, Barkley had a pretty entertaining response. Laughing, “He said he would never apologize. But, as you know, I always carry a gun with me. So, there is a chance. There is a chance. I’ma go to my truck and get my gun and see. So, if I get arrested for murder, y’all will know he didn’t apologize.”
Pippen would eventually be traded to the Portland Trail Blazers after one year in Houston where he averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists and two steals per game.
