VALENTINE’S Day might have already come and gone, but if you’re hangering after a bit of romance then you won’t have far to go.
For Scotland’s capital has been crowned the most romantic city for date nights in the UK.
A survey by Quiz clothing asked where most of us dreamed of spending our next date night and the city was voted the best for those looking to get dressed up and enjoy a night of wooing.
They also found our top romantic date night activity is dinner at a restaurant, with bowling, arcades and mini golf big no-nos.
The study ranked the number of ‘romantic’ restaurants and ‘romantic’ hotels on TripAdvisor in various cities.
They also looked at the number of ‘couples’ activities’ according to TripAdvisor, as well as relevant TikTok and Instagram hashtags for datenight and online searches for “date night [CITY]”
With an overall score of 90 per cent, Edinburgh was tops for couples enjoying a bit of ‘we time’.
The capital boasts a total of 256 restaurants rated as being ‘romantic’, as well as 49 ‘romantic’ hotels rated on TripAdvisor, both of which are the highest outside of London.
Not only that the city also offers 278 activities listed under the ‘Best Things to Do for Couples in Edinburgh’, showing how date nights here can be far from boring.
Other cities ranking highly included Bath (83 per cent), York (82 per cent), Liverpool (82 per cent), and Oxford (82 per cent).
Unfortunately, the romance factor was not so high for those looking for a romantic night in the North East city of Middlesbrough which ranked at the very bottom of the table, scoring just eight per cent.
With just 18 ‘romantic’ restaurants, two ‘romantic’ hotels and 13 activities, loved-up couples may need to look further afield for their next date night.
However the survey found over 12.5 million Brits don’t go on date nights at all!
Almost one in six (14 per cent) of those surveyed admitted that they hadn’t gotten dressed up for a date night since before January last year and 18 per cent haven’t done so since July.
Just four per cent say they get dressed up for their date nights once a month, and even less (two per cent) do so on a weekly basis.
When it comes to date night activities, popular options also include going somewhere for the day, such as the beach or a new city (nine per cent) with seven per cent opting for a festival or gig, followed by a night at the movies for six per cent and the same number fancying a date in a pub.
Zara Masson, Senior Digital Marketing Manager for QUIZ said: “It’s a shame to see that despite people dreaming of date nights and searching for the perfect spot for a romantic rendezvous, the majority of Brits have gone as long as seven months without the chance to get dressed up for the occasion.”
