Scottish runner Andy Butchart sets new Parkrun world record

Scottish runner Andy Butchart has set a new Parkrun record after completing the Edinburgh course in just 13 minutes and 45 seconds.

The 31-year-old tackled the 5km course at Cramond Beach on Saturday cheered on by his partner and fellow runner Lynsey Sharp and their son Max.

The Scot, originally from Dunblane, said the time was a world record for the popular running event, which sees runners of all abilities tackle 5km courses across the world.

He posted on Instagram: “PARK RUN WORLD RECORD! 13.45 official time! Great morning out with the Central AC lads down at Cramond.”

Buchart currently holds the Scottish record for the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 metre events and has competed in the 2016 and 2020 summer Olympics.

Last month he became the UK 10,000km champion at the Meta Endurance event with a time of 27.47.43, finishing in tenth place overall in the Elite race.
