‘Screwed’: Kate Richie’s new role causes radio uproar

Kate Ritchie’s hiatus from our airwaves appears to be over with news she is being parachuted into a prime breakfast co-hosting gig on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa show.

But the move has proved to be controversial after long-standing on-air talent and producer Sarah McGilvray was reportedly dropped to make way for the former Home and Away star.

Kate Ritchie took a break from co-hosting Nova’s drive-show with Tim Blackwell & Joel Creasey late last year to focus on her health. It came just months after she was fined for drink driving in Sydney.

Her breath analysis reading was 0.06, which is only slightly over the legal limit of 0.05.

Speculation has been rife about Ritchie’s next move, with the star teasing fans she would be returning to her hit afternoon show, which she has hosted since 2014.

However, it seems Ritchie will be taking over from popular brekkie talent Sarah McGilvray — who vanished from our radio waves several weeks ago.

McGilvray’s long-standing breakfast co-hosts hosts Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli are said to be disappointed with the news — remaining loyal to colleague and friend McGilvray.

Following weeks of industry gossip, rival station KIIS FMs hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson weighed in on the job-swap debacle this week.

“They’re all topsy-turvy over at Nova apparently. All s**t’s gone loose over there,” Sandilands said.

Henderson agreed there were “a few changes going on”.

Sandilands added: “I think they’re putting that chick from Home and Away (Ritchie) on the breakfast show is what I’ve heard”.

He then went on to ask “What happened to Sarah that used to work here?”
