Sean Durzi’s two goals lead Kings past Red Wings for fourth consecutive victory

Carl Grundstrom scored just nine seconds into the game, Sean Durzi added two goals, and the Kings defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena.

Cal Petersen made 18 saves for the Kings (10-6-1), who swept their four-game homestand and have won five in a row on home ice.

Dominik Kubalic and Dylan Larkin scored on the power play and Filip Hronek had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings (7-5-3), who were swept in the two-game season series. Alex Nedeljkovic allowed four goals on 21 shots.

The Kings have won all five games against Atlantic Division opposition, including a 5-4 overtime victory in Detroit on Oct. 17.

The Kings led 2-1 after an eventful first period that started with Grundstrom scoring on a two-on-one rush — it was the second-fastest goal in team history.

Dave Williams scored seven seconds into a 5-2 win against the Hartford Whalers on Feb. 14, 1987.

Kubalik tied it at 1 with his third power-play goal at 4:09, but the Kings went back ahead with 6:30 to go when Kevin Fiala scored on the power play.

Durzi made it 3-1 at 6:23 of the second, squeezing his shot in at the near post three seconds after a power play expired. He got his first career multigoal game on a blistering slap shot from the blue line during a power play with 6:19 left in the period.

Phillip Danault and Arthur Kaliyev picked up the assists on both of Durzi’s goals. Durzi has three goals this season and six total in 80 career games.

Notes

Kings forward Brendan Lemieux was injured checking Red Wings forward Adam Erne in the second period and did not return. … Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi could return to action Tuesday after missing 13 games because of an upper-body injury. Bertuzzi, who participated in Detroit’s morning skate, was hurt blocking a shot against New Jersey on Oct. 15.
