In his UFC 269 post-fight interview, Sean O’Malley took time to both criticize and praise the commentary of Daniel Cormier.
After knocking out Raulian Paiva in the first round of their bout at UFC 269, Sean O’Malley took time to answer questions from the media. O’Malley touched on everything from his game plan going into the Octagon to his injury he sustained at camp and his plans for the near future.
O’Malley was relaxed and easy-going for most of the interview but suddenly became animated when expanding on his thoughts during the fight.
“… And I want to thank myself for looking at the clock and seeing how much time is left,” O’Malley said. “Daniel Cormier, in my last fight, he’s like ‘Oh my god, he’s looking at the clock!’ It’s like, what are you talking about? Yeah, I’m gonna look at the clock. If I didn’t look at the clock I wouldn’t know how much time I have left. I land a big shot, I don’t know how much time I have left and I have to know should I empty my tank and try and take this dude out should I wait for the rest of the fight and save my energy?”
A reporter would later ask O’Malley for more of his thoughts on the former UFC heavyweight champions commentary, which prompted even more criticism. “I’ve always felt like DC wants me to lose.”
O’Malley also had praise for Daniel Cormier and the position he is put in
Despite taking objection with some of Cormier’s comments, O’Malley would proceed to offer praise and kinder words for him as well.
“That’s a hard job. I couldn’t do that job. His job. To sit there and commentate that many fights. I couldn’t sit there and do that job, I would sound like a complete idiot.”
He would add on later, “Commentating is a really hard job.”
