The second Friday after the murder of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, also passed off peacefully, albeit the police remained on alert in almost all prominent old city areas of Prayagraj all through the day.
RAF personnel and heavy police force remained deployed in sensitive localities and main crossings as a precautionary measure, police officials said.
RAF, PAC and police personnel were deployed in Chakia, Kasari Masari, Rajruppur, Jhalwa, Khuldabad, Kareli and other localities since Friday morning. Police officials said Friday prayers concluded peacefully and no incident of unrest was reported from anywhere.
Police also took precautions and was extra alert after a poster went viral in which Atiq’s son Ali allegedly addressed people to support their family.
Although no incident of violence or unrest was reported after Atiq and Ashraf’s murder on April 15 from any part of the city or areas where Atiq’s supporters are in large numbers, police officials are still taking concrete steps to ensure peace.
Intelligence agencies and LIU personnel are also keeping a watch on suspicious persons and those who have past records of causing nuisance. Atiq’s partially demolished office at Chakia has also been barricaded and is now guarded round the clock after a druggie entered there with intention of theft and got injured.
