‘Secret Invasion’ would be failing 15 years of MCU storytelling if it deploys its most obvious twist

If there’s one thing Secret Invasion is teaching Marvel fans, it’s that you can’t trust anyone. That said, there are limits regarding who the series should and shouldn’t expose as a Skrull, and viewers are not likely to budge on this.

On Reddit, fans of the show have already taken to expressing their concerns for the show’s upcoming episodes, and the biggest one is by far, the possibility of Nick Fury being revealed as a Skrull. Sure, having Secret Invasion‘s protagonist turn out to be the enemy toward the end would flip the whole story on its head, but c’mon, how many people would be able to say they didn’t see it coming? And even if we set aside the predictability of such a twist, there’s no denying that it would be a huge disservice to Fury’s character.

While most folks seem to agree that this type of twist wouldn’t be satisfying, some also point out how this twist simply wouldn’t make sense, for several reasons. For one, we’ve already seen Samuel L. Jackson’s character be revealed as a Skrull in Spider-Man: Far From Home, so for Marvel to pull the same trick would be a tragic display of repetition. Then, there’s also Fury’s shocked reaction to finding out that the alien species has been infiltrating Earth for years and his dedication to preventing them from going any further.

All in all, it’s clear that Skrull-Fury would not be well-accepted by viewers, especially when there are many interesting twists for Marvel to choose from, such as other identity reveals, shocking deaths, and marital conflicts.
