In a fascinating interview series, Brett Berish, the CEO of Sovereign Brands, delivers insightful conversations in his Self Made Tastes Better series. Creativity, entrepreneurship, and overcoming obstacles to success are at the forefront of discussion with top entertainers and cultural drivers in music, fashion, and popular and niche industries.

Sharing experiences and perspectives while learning more about these individuals, the Self Made Tastes Better series sifts through layers of character building and years of labor-intense efforts. The next episode features the founder and creative director of the erupting KidSuper Studios brand out of Brooklyn, New York, Colm Dillane.

“Colm has given me a new perspective on using a wardrobe as a means of self-expression,” Berish expresses. “Bold and eclectic – but comfortable,” is how he describes it. “Very often, my outfit is the ice-breaker. Maybe it’s my wife’s bell-bottom jeans I’m wearing that’ll make someone laugh. The point is – it’s an entree to the conversation and I can use my personal style to explain my company’s ethos of standing out from the status quo of the stoic, corporate wine & spirits industry.”

Berish continues, “Our clothing can be a superhero costume for a new identity to unlock the “Kid” inside us all. KidSuper is not just clothing, it’s wearable art, and it comes with levity too. Colm shows us there’s a serious way to approach not taking yourself too seriously.”

Berish has embodied the lifestyle of the spirits brand, manifesting himself in good faith with celebrities and creatives who have shaped modern culture. Crafting the success of a top seller for Sovereign Brands, Luc Belaire, Berish has aligned himself with the success of these individuals and now is helping tell their stories to inspire the next generation of talent. The guests include rappers Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, and Eve, DJ Khaled, Steve Aoki, singer Post Malonei, and actor Tyrese, to name a few.

In the upcoming episode, Colm Dillane shares the nexus points of his success in his KidSuper studio in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn. “Too often we look at our careers through a myopic lens – what’s happening right now, what’s not happening fast enough,” Dillane points out. “We’re thinking seasons ahead, so very rarely stay in the moment. This conversation forced me into a bird’s eye perspective, a real slowdown and reflection.”

“Creatives know that success doesn’t come overnight. We’re used to working long grueling hours on the things we love. But it’s good to share those tales of love and labor, to inspire others to continue with their creative calling. There’s a lot of hard work and challenges that go into building your own brand and business and it’s not talked about enough. I enjoyed the opportunity to do so with Brett for the Self Made Tastes Better interview,” states Dillane.

Starting out as an energetic teen with an artist father and “free-spirit” mother, becoming a talented soccer player at the university level, and running toward the darkness of Paris Fashion Week as an emerging fashion designer, Dillane maps out his key moments. Acknowledging the culmination of his journey, creating a capsule for Louis Vuitton, and showing his collaborative designs on a Paris runway, is what we all imagine as success in fashion.

Berish notes, “Anyone can talk about their successes. That to me is the least interesting part of anyone’s story. I hope through this conversation people can learn about the in-between, the mistakes, the heartbreaks, and the learning lessons. The goal of this series is to hear from independents, brands, and people like us who never had a co-sign. I hope that gives people hope and the chip on their shoulders they need to go against the grain and keep making it happen.”

The platform is Brett Berish’s display of some of the most influential characters of today. The series consists of over 60 episodes with tastemakers of all kinds. A growing source for unique conversation, Berish invites the risk-takers and those finding viability within their craft.

“There will be scary moments where you will think,” Dillane says. “‘Is this worth it? Is this a mistake?’ You have to take a leap, believe in yourself, and dedicate yourself to your goals and visions. You can’t succeed if you’re half-ass.”

Dillane has taken a leap with KidSuper and, besides his antics of the years in marketing and promoting his brand. The stories Dillane tells of performing crazy stunts only complement the details of his newly minted fashion status, Paris fashion weak being one of his biggest stunts. A “childlike sense of wonder,” Dillane says, is what KidSuper stands for, and the Self Made Tastes Better interview with a moment-defining designer like Dillane is pouring back into their audiences with aspirational ideas for the hustler in all of us.
