Ben Affleck’s name has been in the news a lot lately, as the movie star announced his engagement to ex-fiancé, J.Lo. But it’s not just his current relationship that has tongues wagging, as in season five of Selling Sunset, released on 22 April 2022, Emma Hernan revealed that she’d matched with the Hollywood actor on celebrity dating app Raya (Bemma, anyone?).
Speaking to Chrishell Stause during the fifth season episode “Do You Think We’re Friends,” Emma says: “Remember when Ben Affleck went viral because he sent some girl… He may or may not have been texting me,”
She adds: “He may or may not have asked to grab coffee a few times,” before explaining that she never took him up on the alleged offer and clarified that the exchanges happened before Ben and J.Lo reunited.
“You could’ve foiled Bennifer! He was on the hunt,” Chrishell joked, to which Emma replies, “Right? It was right before that. So, maybe that wouldn’t have happened. We have the Boston connection. So, that was his opening pick-up line.”
And though reps for the Oscar-winning actor stated he hasn’t been an active Raya member “for several years,” the release date of the latest series timed with Affleck’s recent engagement left fans of the show questioning whether there was any overlap between the two couplings and when exactly the pair matched on the app.
But Hernan herself has now opened up about what really went down in an exclusive interview on E! News’ Daily Pop. “It was not recent. This was 2019,” she told hosts Justin Sylvester and Heather Dubrow on 25 April. “Literally, the smallest, innocent little thing, and it was taken and blew up out of proportion.”
She also referenced how their interaction was made out to be bigger than it was in the Selling Sunset episode: “I think on the show, you didn’t see the time frame and it just seemed worse, and it was literally the smallest thing,” she said. “End of story. We’re shutting that one down, now.”
Ben himself denies using the app in recent years. “Raya has confirmed that he has not been an active member for several years,” a rep for Affleck told People on April 22.
But just because it didn’t work out between herself and Ben Affleck (Afflnan?!), doesn’t mean that the reality star is left without a love interest. In fact, spoiler alert, she got another chance at love during the show’s latest episode instalments, hitting things off with property developer Micah McDonald.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Ooh, he’s a snack,’ whatever. I didn’t get to enjoy the ‘snack.’ Let’s just put that out there,” she revealed. “He lives in Texas. He’s back and forth between the two places, so we haven’t got to spend a ton of time together.”
“We get along great, and he actually just moved here,” Hernan shared. “So, TBD.”
We will certainly be waiting with baited breath to see how this pans out… but, in the meantime, can someone tell us how we can finally get on Raya?!
