Bay Area fans will have more chances to hang out with those “seriously sexy Stormtroopers,” now that organizers have decided to extend the run of “The Empire Strips Back — the Unauthorized Star Wars Burlesque Parody.”
The engagment — which was extended “due to popular demand,” according to a news release — is now scheduled to last through Oct. 2 at the Great Star Theater in San Francisco.
“We knew choosing San Francisco was the smart choice for our first sit-down run in the U.S. Even though we had played here a few one-night stands over the years, nothing prepared us for the audience support and embracing of our weird little show,” says Russall S. Beattie, creator of “The Empire Strips Back.” “The response confirmed the decision to extend the run through to the fall to bring more audience over to the dark (and sexy) side of the force.”
The 90-minute production — which producers make clear is “not sponsored, endorsed by or affiliated with Disney, Lucasfilm Entertainment Company Ltd, Lucasfilm Ltd or any of its subsidiaries or affiliated companies and/or third-party licensors” — combines “striptease, song and dance, troupe routines and plenty of humor.”
It features classic “Star Wars” characters — but certainly not in the way we’ve come to know them. Fans can expect to see “a menacing troop of seriously sexy Stormtroopers, a dangerously seductive Boba Fett, tantalizing Twi’leks, a delightfully lukewarm Taun Taun, a lady-like Skywalker, and of course, scantily clad and daring Droids.”
Tickets start at $29, empirestripsback.com.
