Seven Seas Grandeur: New Luxury Ship To Set Sail With Precious Crown Jewel

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is known for the curated museum quality art collections that grace its fleet of five luxury ships. But when Regent’s newest ship, Seven Seas Grandeur launches in November 2023, one diminutive—but very precious—objet d’art will take center stage in the ship’s soaring atrium.

The line has partnered with the legendary royal jeweler, Fabergé, to create a bespoke piece of art that will become a permanent part of the new ship’s multi-million dollar art collection.

Named “Journey in Jewels,” an 18 cm (about 7 inch) tall Fabergé Egg will sit on a three-tiered base that hides the egg’s opening mechanism, the first time the maker has hidden the movement in this way.

The outer “shell” of the ombre enamel egg will be composed of seven waves of deep blue, representing seven seas, with an ocean spray of pearls. The design was inspired by the iconic Fabergé Winter Egg of 1913, one of 52 rare Easter eggs created by the Russian imperial jeweler, Carl Fabergé. Encrusted with diamonds, in 2002, it sold for $9.6 million at Christie’s in New York.

This egg, designed by Fabergé’s Head of Design, Liisa Tallgren, will similarly be entirely hand-crafted. From conception to completion, a team of artisans in England led by a Fabergé-appointed Workmaster, will spend an estimated 48 months creating this one-of-a-kind work of art. The details of its interior will be revealed at the time of the new ship’s christening.

Contemporary fine art has always been integral to the design and decor of Regent Seven Seas’ ships. Grandeur’s sister ships, Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor feature notable works by Picasso, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Eduardo Arranz-Bravo, Juan Roberto Diago, and Roberto Matta, among others.

New art-inspired Fabergé Spotlight Voyages

“With each new ship we want the journey itself to provide opportunities for discovery and enrichment as much as the destinations along the way,” said Jason Montague, President and Chief Executive Officer, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, in a press release announcing the partnership with Fabergé.

This unique art collaboration has inspired the two new Fabergé-themed voyages that will delight both art and history aficionados with unique tours, lectures and immersive experiences in the heritage of Fabergé:

Departing from Southampton In June 2023, guests on Seven Seas Splendor will explore the jeweler’s connection to British royalty in England, before heading to Scandinavia to learn about the origins of Fabergé’s craftspeople, and also visit Fabergé collections in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The voyage will be hosted by Dr. Géza von Habsburg, Fabergé’s curatorial director.

In 2024, Sarah Fabergé, a great granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, will join guests and host a sailing on Seven Seas Grandeur.

Other Spotlight Voyages, now in the planning stages, will be announced.

Seven Seas Grandeur: Redefining luxury cruising

This new all-suite, all-balcony ship will host only 750 guests, promising the highest space and staff-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Awarding-winning Studio DADO was chosen to oversee the interior design of Seven Seas Grandeur. The staterooms include 15 lavish categories of suites, including a palatial 4,443 square-foot Regent Suite with a private in-suite spa.

At Compass Rose, the largest specialty restaurant at sea, guests will be able to create their own dining experience each time they visit. In fact, the restaurant itself is being reimagined inside and out. A cascading waterfall sculpture will greet guests before they enter; inside, they’ll dine under a forest-like canopy of crystal and wood-edge illuminated trees. The menu for the popular Sette Mari Italian restaurant is also being recrafted.

With each successive ship launch, Regent Seven Seas has been raising the bar on boutique luxury cruising while simultaneously enhancing the aesthetics of the cruise experience.

After the inaugural season, Seven Seas Grandeur will embark upon 17 voyages, 7-15 days in length each, in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, including two transatlantic crossings.
