‘Severance,’ ‘Station Eleven’ Lead DGA Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary in 2022.

Nominees were announced in the categories dramatic series, comedy series, movies made for television and limited series, variety/talk/new/sports – regularly scheduled programming, variety/talk/news/sports – specials, reality programs, children’s programs, commercials and documentary.

Apple TV+’s Severance received two nominations for episodes “Hide and Seek,” directed by Aoife McArdle, and “The We We Are,” directed by Ben Stiller. HBO Max’s Station Eleven also scored two nominations, one for the episode “Who’s There?” directed by Helen Shaver and one for “Unbroken” directed by Jeremy Podeswa.

In the drama category, Jason Bateman (Ozark), Vince Gilligan (Better Call Saul), and Sam Levinson (Euphoria) also scored nods, while in the comedy category, Tim Burton (Wednesday), Bill Hader (Barry), Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Christopher Storer (The Bear) and Mike White (The White Lotus) received nominations.

In the limited series or movies made for television category, Eric Appel (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story), Deborah Chow (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tom Verica (Inventing Anna) were also nominated. Nominated documentaries include Sara Dosa for Fire of Love, Matthew Heineman for Retrograde, Laura Poitras for All The Beauty and the Bloodshed, Daniel Roher for Navalny and Shaunak Sen for All That Breathes.

The winners will be announced at the 75th annual DGA Awards on Feb. 18, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
