Starting Monday, July 11, SFO passengers heading to flights will be able to buy a chef-driven grab-and-go meal, salad or sandwich from Proper Food, a concept from entrepreneurs who met at Stanford.
The chain was founded in San Francisco’s Financial District in 2014 by now-co-CEOs Howard and Dana Bloom, with a menu created by founding executive chef and head of operations Juan Muñoz (Campton Place, City Club of San Francisco). It’s now a bicoastal operation, with nine locations in S.F. and four in New York City. This location just south of San Francisco will make the 10th for the Bay Area.
The Blooms’ idea was to offer fresh, seasonal food to go or, as they call it, “a fresh take on takeaway.” All meals are made daily in a South San Francisco commissary kitchen and delivered to each location. At day’s end, any leftover meals are donated.
Among the popular meals are Chimichurri Hanger Steak, Sweet Potato Enchiladas and Korean BBQ.
The special summer menu features a Tuscan Eggplant Sandwich with roasted marinated eggplant, pecorino cream, artichoke spread and fresh basil on focaccia; a Summer Salad featuring fresh peaches, figs and goat cheese; a Chicken, Pesto & Hummus Wrap with homemade hummus and roasted tomatoes in a whole-wheat wrap; and a Tofu Asada Burrito, with marinated organic tofu, white cheddar, basmati rice, black beans, avocado and salsa.
Catching an early flight? There are a dozen breakfast options, including Power Breakfast Plates with scrambled eggs and kale, Overnight Gluten-Free Oatmeal and Chiquito Breakfast Burritos.
