SHARJAH, 5th September, 2022 (WAM) — The Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah participated in the 21st edition of the Amman International Book Fair, which runs to the tenth of this month, in a panel discussion within the fair’s activities, organised by the Jordan Academy of Arabic under the title “The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language: Challenges and Solutions.”

Dr. Mohammed Safi Mustghanmi, Secretary-General of Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah, and Executive Director of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language Project, and Dr. Mamoun Wajih, Scientific Director of the Lexicon Project, delivered speeches at the event, which was moderated by Dr. Mohammed Al Saudi, Secretary-General of the Jordan Academy of Arabic.

The event sheds light on the role of the historical dictionary of the Arabic language in crystallising the science of terminology in various arts and sciences, the benefits and purposes that the dictionary achieves, the stages of its preparation, and the number of researchers and experts working in it.

Dr. Mustghanmi highlighted the great role of the support given by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to the dictionary project, in addition to the enthusiasm of the participants of the project.

The Secretary-General of ALA indicated that the dictionary covers the different eras of the Arabic language and helps researchers to know the words and phrases that were popular in every era and how they were employed in the daily speech of Arabs and in their literary creations of poetry and prose in various fields of composition.
