The Shazam! actor raised eyebrows after agreeing with a statement that questioned one of the prominent vaccine providers during the course of the global pandemic.
Sharing his thoughts on Twitter, the star generated hoards of negative backlash after appearing to be an anti-vaxxer on the platform.
In response to the question: ‘Do you agree or not, that Pfizer is a real danger to the world?’, the 42-year-old penned: ‘Hardcore agree.’ followed by a straight-faced emoji.
The Pfizer vaccine has been proven to be safe and is used to prevent serious illness or death from the Covid-19 virus.
His two-word answer quickly roused fans who tweeted the actor explaining their distaste for his stance on the issue.
One wrote: ‘Here I was, actually kind of excited for your movie. But nah. I’m not supporting you now. [sic]’
Another added: ‘Okay, one less movie ticket to spend money on. Stupid.’
‘Bro how u gonna kill ur movie before it even starts smh [sic],’ was one other fan’s reaction.
Zachary stars in the upcoming sequel to Shazam! – Shazam! Fury of the Gods – which is set to be released in March.
Despite the comments condemning his approach to the vaccine, the actor did receive some praise for his outspokenness.
‘Crazy how it takes courage to say what all normal people are thinking, but between @ZacharyLevi and @DjokerNole, I feel like role models still do exist!’ wrote one Twitter user who likened the famous face to tennis player Novak Djokovic.
In support of the actor’s comments, a fan typed: ‘Glad to see Hollywood waking up.’
The star’s words came days after he posted news of his father Darrell’s death following a battle with cancer.
Alongside a lengthy typed-out message, the DC actor wrote a heartfelt caption that read: ‘Hug those you love. Hug ‘em tight. Talk about everything you need to talk about.
‘Say all the things. And when the time comes, release them to journey back to where it all began. Back to paradise. A place we’ll all be so lucky to return to some day. [sic]’
Zachary thanked his fans for their ‘overwhelming kindness’ in the post that detailed the star’s heartbreak.
