Manchester United’s long takeover saga appears to be coming to a close with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani reportedly being successful in his bid to buy the club. It was back in late November when the Glazers announced they were “exploring strategic alternatives” for the club.
It was soon clear that the Glazers were open to the idea of a full-scale sale with Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe emerging as the frontrunners as early as February. Both respective bids were vastly different with Sheikh Jassim aiming to buy 100 per cent of the club while Ratcliffe’s was said to be closer to 60 per cent.
The British billionaire’s offer would have reportedly had an open offer for both Avram and Joel Glazer to remain on board in some capacity as minority shareholders. That proved an unpopular pick among some United fans, who threw their support behind the Qatari deal.
And it now seems as though Sheikh Jassim has won the race to buy the Old Trafford outfit.
