Sheikh Jassim information emerges as Man Utd owner Avram Glazer gets called out

Sheikh Jassim is reportedly yet to hear back from the Glazers regarding his latest offer to buy Manchester United, it has been claimed. The Qatari billionaire has lodged four bids for the club, with his latest offer coming over a fortnight ago. However, there’s still no indication of what will happen with Erik ten Hag, his staff and his players all being kept in the dark.

According to The Guardian, Sheikh Jassim is yet to hear back from the Glazers regarding his latest bid for United.

And while the saga has been ongoing since November, there’s still no end in sight as the family continue to cling to power.

The Glazers confirmed that month they were open to selling United, having been in charge ever since 2005.

But they’ve not made a final decision on whether to stay or go, despite both Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe pressing to buy the club.

Ratcliffe is viewed as the frontrunner to buy United.

Man Utd takeover: Garnacho could be set for awkward reunion after Sheikh Jassim approval

He’s willing to let brothers Joel and Avram stay at Old Trafford in reduced roles before cashing in their existing shares further down the line.

As for Sheikh Jassim, he only wants 100 per cent control.

It was recently reported the Qatari figure isn’t ruling out a fifth bid, either, amid suggestions there’s a ‘feeling’ that surrounds his camp.

One thing that certainly won’t be happening is a takeover announcement ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final showdown with Manchester City.

United don’t want any distractions ahead of that game as they look to derail their rivals’ hopes of a treble.

Avram Glazer was previously in attendance as the Red Devils beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final back in February.

And it’s possible the American will make the trip to Wembley once again.

However, it recently transpired that Avram had opted to expense United for his flight to London – having also attended the WSL final at the same ground.

The 62-year-old made United fork out over £500,000 on his two trips to the capital.

And football finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking to Football Insider, has labelled that decision as ‘parasitical’.

“The Glazer family have always adopted a parasitical approach to football ownership,” said Maguire.

“It manifests itself in the fact that Avram Glazer is more than happy to watch Man United play at Wembley for the glamorous matches.

“Yet he shows very little interest in attending matches on a regular basis.

“The Glazers have made so much money from Man United that the £500,000 that has been spent on arranging flights just shows that they are a family of no style and no substance.

“The rates are well in excess of standard market rates.”

Maguire also recently stated that how Ratcliffe stores his wealth could be a ‘challenging issue’ for the Brit as he looks to fend off competition from Sheikh Jassim.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s wealth has never been a distractor as far as his ability to fund a takeover is concerned,” he said.

“How his wealth is stored is a much more challenging issue – he’s unlikely to have £5-6billion of cash in a bank account given present rates of interest.

“Liquidising his assets will be much more tricky for him, should he choose to go down that particular route.

“If the acquisition is going to be done through INEOS, then I suspect that they will use a combination of existing cash resources while also going to the market to fund the purchase price.”
