Sheikh Jassim’s involvement in Mason Mount to Man Utd deal clarified

Express Sport understands Sheikh Jassim isn’t currently involved in Manchester United’s pursuit of Mason Mount. Questions have been asked over who is fitting the bill for the Chelsea star, with the Red Devils seeing three offers for the midfielder rejected so far. However, it seems the Glazers are still prepared to sanction spending despite potentially leaving the club.

Manchester United want to sign Mount and have made the Chelsea star a priority transfer target for this summer.

On Friday, it emerged the Blues had rejected three bids for the 24-year-old so far – with the latest offer of around £55million turned down.

With United pressing ahead with transfer plans, despite being on the market, questions have been asked about who is fitting the bill.

And Express Sport understands Sheikh Jassim has no involvement whatsoever, even though he’s the frontrunner to buy the club.

That would suggest it’s the Glazers who are willing to spend, though it won’t be their own money.

Instead, the family are poised to dip into United’s wealth and use that to help bring Mount to the club.

What is abundantly clear, however, is that the Red Devils won’t overspend on Mount.

While United like the midfielder, they’re prepared to move on to other targets if forced to pull the plug on a deal.

The Red Devils believe Chelsea are being unreasonable at the current moment in time.

With Mount having just a year left on his contract in west London, the Blues face selling the academy graduate now or losing him for nothing.

United have reportedly got a shortlist of four alternatives as they look to bolster their squad.

And Ten Hag also wants the club to spend on a new striker this summer as he looks to reel in Manchester City.

United would, in a dream world, snap up Harry Kane from Tottenham.

Yet Daniel Levy is reluctant to lose his talisman, despite the 29-year-old having just 12 months on his contract left to run.

Kane is reportedly open to joining United.

But the Red Devils want the England international to hand in a transfer request to boost their hopes of striking a deal.

United remain in the hunt to acquire Victor Osimhen, though the Napoli star won’t be cheap.

And Rasmus Hojlund, Goncalo Ramos and Dusan Vlahovic have all been linked amid uncertainty over their futures at Atalanta, Benfica and Juventus respectively.

Speaking after United lost to City in the FA Cup final earlier this month, Ten Hag vowed to ‘fight for my ideas’.

“I have only one plan, that is to improve this club, improve this team,” said the 53-year-old.

“I will fight for my ideas. I will talk to the club about what we have to do for that.

“But I have to work with my staff, my players, to be better next season.”

United could sell six players this summer to raise extra funds.

Harry Maguire, Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga are all facing uncertain futures.
