Question: how do the fashion pack look so polished all the time? Answer: investing in classics. But great fashion shouldn’t cost a fortune. We’re here for Uniqlo x Jil Sander – the cult high street collaboration where you can find the best wear-forever pieces, at a fraction of the price of their mainline designer counterparts.
It was way back in 2009 when the Japanese retailer began working with iconic minimalist Jil Sander on their capsule collections, which continue to be sell-out successes. Now, the winter chapter has arrived in store and we found all the solutions to every.single.one of this season’s dressing dilemmas.
Although, if you’re looking for on-trend details and a fast fashion fix, look elsewhere. Echoing Sander’s design signatures, the Uniqlo range is all about understated design, elevated basics and luxurious fabrics.
According to Sanders, “This winter’s collection concentrates on distinctive silhouettes, sensual textures and luxurious tailoring which respond to our new sense of comfort: Sophistication for everyone. We return to social life, but we want to feel protected. The collection explores new oversize silhouettes with a controlled fit and variations of substantial winter classics.”
So let’s break down those price tags… Prices start at £29.90 for a leather belt. £34.90 will get you a statement silhouette sweatshirt or a pair of slim-leg joggers that are way slicker than your average loungewear. There are luscious cashmere knits like this cosy polo-neck for £129.90 or a fine gauge round-neck version, also for £129.90.
We’ve picked out our top ten pieces from the Uniqlo x Jil Sander J+ collection that could form the basis of a capsule wardrobe – that fabled method of dressing that obliterates morning ‘what-shall-I-wear?’ panic, and is a gentler, more sustainable way to shop. If you’re getting ready to make some goals for 2022, building – and sticking to – a capsule wardrobe full of classics is #1 on our to-do list. If you’re looking for luxury on a budget, Uniqlo x Jil Sander’s J+ collection would be a great place to start…
