The out-of-favour cricketer southpaw made it clear that he wasn’t specifically talking about Virat Kohli. and Rohit Sharma before adding that such tussles increase the love and improves the bondings between two players when the air of doubt is cleared.
“It’s a very human and normal thing to have egos. We are together for (almost) 220 days. Sometimes there are misunderstandings between people. It’s the same with us as well. I am not speaking about Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli), but a general thing,” Dhawan told Sports Tak.
“We have a 40-member team, which includes support staff and managers. There could be some clashes and times when you are not happy with someone. It happens. And why not? When things improve, the love also increases,” he added.
Further, the 37-year-old also spoke about losing his place in the Indian ODI team to Shubman Gill. Dhawan, who made his international debut back in 2010, stated that the Punjab batter is currently the more deserving candidate. Dhawan added that he would himself prefer Gill over himself as a selector.
“I feel the way Shubman is (playing). Like he was playing two formats and performing well in Tests and T20s. He was playing more matches in the international circuit and I wasn’t… If I were the selector then definitely would give the chance to Shubman. Would have selected Shubman over Shikhar,” Dhawan said.
The Delhi batter will be seen leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He has taken over the charge from Mayank Agarwal who will play under Aiden Markram for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
