During the last series of Strictly Come Dancing, 62-year-old Shirley Ballas faced a wave of online trolling and received an outpour of hateful messages after every show. With speculation on which celebrities will be taking part in the upcoming series later this year, it’s unclear whether or not the head judge will be reprising her role. When speaking to This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Holly Willoughby, Shirley revealed she’s not yet been invited back.

Throughout the 20th series of the BBC dance show, which saw cameraman Hamza Yassin lift the glitterball, Shirley Ballas was the victim of online trolling.

Touching on her experience on the show last year, the long-running judge confessed she was at an all-time low when the hateful messages poured in.

The judge faced backlash over her critiques with many accusing her of sexism and favouritism with some taking a cruel swipe at her appearance.

Shirley had revealed it was the most negativity she had ever received during her time on the show when speaking to The Mirror.

During Monday’s instalment of This Morning, the long-running judge spoke to hosts Alison Hammond and Holly Willoughby about the upcoming series.

The conversation moved onto some of the celebrities who are rumoured to be taking part in the new season.

Saying names such as Peter Crouch and Gino D’Acampo, Holly said to Shirley: “Obviously, you can’t confirm.”

Although her co-host Alison commented: “I bet she can, go on tell us. Go on Shirley, what have you got for us?”

Laughing at their eagerness to get an answer out of her, the 62-year-old admitted she wasn’t able to tease anything.

Holly said: “Well, you’re not thinking of not being there?”

Shirley replied: “Well, we’re waiting for that invitation and once it gets there and we sort out…

“I love to give tips and help people along the way to move forward and be beautiful dancers and all that they can be.”

Complimenting Shirley’s role in the BBC dance competition, Holly told her she’s a brilliant judge.

Responding, she said: “But the line-up for sure, just when you can’t think it can get any better, it does. I’m just saying!”

Throwing a potential celebrity into the line-up, Alison mentioned Holly’s name as she told the This Morning host she’d be amazing on the show.

Holly replied: “I always say this, I would love to do it but without it being filmed.

“I would die, I’d be so embarrassed I’d just die. But, I’d love to learn to dance properly, it’s magical.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Alison revealed she wishes she could take part in the show again every time she watches it.

The 48-year-old competed in the series back in 2014 with professional dancer Aljaž Skorjanec where she finished in 10th place.

Speaking about her time on the BBC dance competition, she told Shirley: “It’s just joy, you forget your name, you forget who you are.

“When you’re dancing you forget literally everything and you can just be in the moment.”

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
