If there is one thing that is annoying in the bathroom, it is having a shower with the water squirting out in every direction but down. The water is being squeezed through the holes in the shower head which have become clogged with limescale and no matter how much households try to fix the problem by wiping the shower head, they find the situation only gets worse. But before ordering a new showerhead, Mrs Hinch fans suggest using a common fizzy drink to tackle the problem.
Posting a picture of their shower head covered in thick brown and white limescale buildup, one cleaning enthusiast took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page anonymously to ask how to clean it.
The post received over 270 comments from fellow group members, who suggested natural methods over using dedicated cleaning products.
One method that many seemed to agree on is using cola to descale a shower head.
Linnette Eaton said: “Put in a bag with full fat cola. I saw this on Stacey Solomon’s programme last night and it worked wonders.”

Sarah Mayer wrote: “Cola, put shower head in a plastic bag with the Cola, tap up and leave. Then rinse. It’s brilliant.”
Anne Cook commented: “I’ve just done mine this morning. Find something that the shower head will fit in and fill it with cola. Leave for an hour and give it a rinse, ready to put back on the shower.”
Debbie Caine said: “Stick it in a bag of cola (not diet), tape around the top of the bag to secure it and leave overnight. The results are insane.”
Anne Green wrote: “Soak for one hour in a plastic bag of cola. Worked a treat on mine.” In response to Anne, Carrie Louise said: “I agreed, this is the best solution. It just melts away the limescale.”
Christine Potts wrote: “Soak it in cheap coke for one hour. After that there’s no need to scrub, just rinse the shower head under warm water.”
Amanda Daw said: “Put it in a vase or some kind of vessel that is taller than the shower head. I have one of those glass tank things you put flowers or glass beads etc in.
“Fill it right up with Cola. Make sure it goes into the whole attachment, leave overnight. Give it a good rinse. Works for me every time.”
Any brand of cola will suffice for this hack. A bottle of Sainsbury’s own can be purchased for 65p and a bottle of Tesco and Asda own cola both retail for 70p.

It is not just Mrs Hinch fans who recommend this hack, Tom Drake, bathroom expert at Drench, also claims this drink to be “effective” when trying to remove limescale.
He said: “Most cola drinks contain citric acid, tartaric acid and phosphoric acid, all of which are found in bathroom cleaning products.
“Cola normally contains a stronger concentration of phosphoric acid than traditional cleaning sprays, making it a fantastically quick and easy method of cleaning your bathroom on a budget.
“Although it may not do as well at creating a shine, cola drinks can be incredibly effective at unclogging mineral deposits and limescale in your shower head.”
He recommends using a plastic bag tied around the shower head, leaving it to soak for an hour before rinsing.
When choosing a cola brand, any should work as long as is has the three ingredients mentioned above.
For extremely stubborn limescale, drench recommends teaming this method with a little scrubbing using a toothbrush, or to pierce the water holes with a needle for an extra unclogging.
Households can even use cola in their toilet to target stubborn stains and remove residue by pouring a two litre bottle of cola around the bowl and leaving it to sit for an hour before gently brushing and flushing.
