NEW DELHI: India batter Shreyas Iyer, who was nursing a back injury, has been cleared by the BCCI medical team and will now join the squad ahead of the second Test against Australia starting in the capital on Friday.
The second Test will be played from February 17-21 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi.
“Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab at the National Cricket Academy following his back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated in a media statement.
“Shreyas will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second Test of the Mastercard Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the statement further said.
Iyer had gone to Nagpur with the Indian team for the first Test, but then left for the NCA in Bangalore for his recovery.
A bad back has kept Iyer out of action since the ODI series against New Zealand last month.
The 28-year-old Mumbaikar has been recovering from the injury, which forced him to miss the T20I series against New Zealand too, at NCA.
India’s squad for second Test: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav
